9 Start-to-Finish Guide for Content marketing strategy 2021

Content marketing strategy

It is very important to have a Content marketing strategy guide for your small or large businesses, regardless of which you are running. But as i’m talking to you right now, there are many businesses out there that are running without a solid plan, they just ride with whatever comes their way. They might not notice anything wrong in this practice, but in the long run they discover they’ve embarked on an never ending journey.

According to Content Marketing Institute (CMI) and MarketingProf, about 63% of businesses don’t have a well written content marketing strategy Wooooooow!. Don’t be shock if you’re included in this list, but the good side is all that is about to change.

Here are the steps for easy reference:

  • Step 1: Define your mission and objectives.
  • Step 2: Define your key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Step 3: Identify Your Target Market
  • Step 4: Determine the Most Effective Content Channels
  • Step 5: Make a list of content types.
  • Step 6: Identify and Distribute Resources
  • Step 7: Make a Content Calendar Step
  • Step 8: Create Content Step
  • Step 9: Market and Distribute

Step 1: Define your mission and objectives.

A content marketing mission or objective is very important, because it will help you to know the audience you’re targeting and what kind of content fascinates and interest them, and what they stand to gain.

Step 2: Define your key performance indicators (KPIs).

This is the not the first time or place you’ve heard of KPI, which stands for Key Performance Index. Every business out there has a KPI to track and measure, this will enable you determine your progress in your success calendar. For major businesses online KPI metrics include (revenue, sales, traffic, SEO, traffic etc). A comparison of your progress in 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months helps you know if you are growing, stagnant, or drifting backwards. If it is the case of the second and third option, then you know you have to revisit your Content marketing strategy and make some new change.

Step 3: Identify Your Target Market

Next up is to identity your targeted audience. Who are they? Where are they? (what do they look like, what can of cloth do they wear, what do they eat in the morning, afternoon or night) except for those words written outside the bracket, you don’t want to be a stalker right. Unless you are doing some of census stuffs or survey, you don’t really want that. But the global or general metrics to track when Identifying Your Targeted Market is Age, Gender, Location, Language, Interest, Education, Income.

Step 4: Determine the Most Effective Content Channels

Have you ever get stuck on choosing which social media platform should you be on, There’s Facebook, and then you love twitter so much, but thinking about Youtube as well because you will be consistently generating video contents too, and you’ve heard about Pinterest and their great taller images, but what difference does it make being on Pinterest and Instagram. “wow can’t believe we just played out that thoughts, smiles”. Truth is, that was me when i started blogging. I loved all of the social platform and wanted to be on all of them but i nearly collapse trying to build presence on all of them at once. Please keep this secret with you guys (for 5 years, i built a YouTube with a whooping 150 subscriber, 3k Facebook followers, 1k Instagram followers, a round of applaud for me guys….. Booo Booo) yeah i deserved to be booed isn’t it?

My advice is don’t try to do all at once, it will be overwhelming. Do one at a time instead, the result will be faster. And when you have gotten a satisfactory or convincing result, you can then consider building your presence on another social media platform, using the first social accounts to promote the next one.

Also you want to understand the difference and similarity in all the social media platform. For post update Facebook accepts both Text, Image and Video for updates, Twitter accepts Text, Image and Video for updates, Instagram does not accept Text but Only Image and Video for updates, Pinterest accepts does not Text, but only accept Image and Video for updates, and YouTube accepts Video, images can only be accepted when you are approved and your subscribers have grown into a larger number.

(Understanding that i did it wrong for the first time, made me change my approach to towards building my social media account, in less than 2 years, i grew our YouTube from 0 – 12,600+ subscribers, Facebook has over 18,000 followers).

Step 5: Make a list of content types.

Next, consider the types of content you’ll need to provide. Every content marketing strategy will contain certain categories of information.

The majority of effective content marketing techniques rely on having a central core of information published on your own site (or “home base”) that can then be repurposed and shared on other sites (outposts).

As a result, blog articles remain an important aspect of your content marketing strategy, and they continue to provide positive outcomes. Your blog postings should ideally be useful, valuable, and shareable, and they should cover a wide range of topics or under a niche.

Step 6: Identify and Distribute Resources

Now that you know what kind of content you’re going to develop, who you’re going to make it for, and where you’re going to distribute it, make sure you have everything you need to execute your content marketing strategy. This entails answering questions such as:

  • Who is in charge of content creation and maintenance?
  • To develop the content, what human, physical, or digital tools and resources would you require?
  • What will your publication process, including content scheduling, look like?

Step 7: Make a Content Calendar Step

As part of your content strategy, you’ll need to know exactly when you want to publish your content on each of the platforms you want to use.

Lack of planning is a key content marketing mistake, so it’s essential to use a content calendar to get all your content scheduled. There are several ways to do this.

For example, you can use Google Calendar and simply put the due dates for each piece of content there. That works pretty well, especially if you’re not publishing a lot of content.

Step 8: Create Content Step

As you can see, there’s a lot of planning that goes into creating content for your content marketing strategy. But now is the moment to take action. We’ll use a blog post as an example, but these guidelines may be applied to nearly any sort of content creation.

You’ll know what kind of blog article to write based on the research you’ve previously done. For example, we know that our readers enjoy list posts and how-tos.

It’s now time to choose a title from the content calendar and get to work.

Examine Your Content

When you’re ready to start writing, you’ll need to know:

  • What is already available?
  • How can your fresh material benefit your audience?

Step 9: Market and Distribute

Distribution and marketing are the next important aspects of your content strategy. That’s because unless things are handled correctly, you won’t obtain the outcomes you want. For instance, you will most likely:

  • Make a plan to share your content on social media, both instantly and via a drip campaign using a platform like Missinglettr.
  • Email marketing is a great way to get your material out to your readers.
  • Notify any influencers highlighted in your article so that the message can be carried even farther.
