The Nigerian music industry is flooded with lawsuits and injunctions, but Blaqbonez is having none of it as he appeals to Asa and, surprisingly enough, Asake as well.
Blaqbonez, one of Nigeria’s most promising young rappers and comic stars, has made a request to seasoned artist Asa over his use of her song 360 as a sample on his upcoming album, Young Preacher.
The rapper posted a clip of the song I’d Be Waiting from his upcoming album Young Preacher while the Joeboy and Asa lawsuit was trending on Twitter. He wrote, “Hi queen Asa (@asakemusik), I sampled your classic on the outro of my album. My team has gone out to yours for clearance. I’m grateful.
However, it’s important to point out that while the rapper mentioned Asa, a veteran singer who is now dealing with a court order from producer Tempoe and has sued Joeboy, Blaqbonez had mentioned Asake, a swiftly growing artist. Since then, fans have expressed their theories on the tag, speculating that it might be a sort of double packed appeal to Asake for the top spot on the national charts as well as for Asa to clear the sample and avoid a lawsuit.
Asa’s debut album, Asa (Asha), contains the single 360, whilst Blaqbonez’s upcoming album, due out on October 28, will be the rapper’s second studio album.
