For the first time since August 1989, Pete Rose turned down the opportunity to speak with two reporters about his alleged contact with a minor today.

Rose was present as the team honored former players and the Phillies’ 1980 World Series title squad.

The aforementioned occurrences initially came to light in 2017. When she was 14 and 15, according to a lady who has not been named, Rose, who was then a member of the Cincinnati Reds, started dating her. They apparently had several-year-long sexual encounters in Cincinnati after that. She also claimed that Rose had met her outside of Ohio to have sex.

Rose was married with two kids and in his mid-30s at the time.

The woman’s claims, according to Rose’s attorney, are unsubstantiated. Rose acknowledged having a relationship with the woman in 2017, but he said it began when she was 16 years old. They never engaged in sexual activity outside of Ohio, where the legal age of consent was 16.

When the allegations broke, the Phillies abandoned their plans to honor Rose in 2017. Rose ignored the problem in her response on Sunday.

Rose said to Alex Coffey, a female baseball reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, “It was 55 years ago, babe.

Who gives a damn what happened fifty years ago? Rose uttered. You were not even conceived. You shouldn’t be discussing it since you weren’t born, so. Don’t talk about something if you don’t know anything about it.

Later, he rejected similar inquiries from an AP reporter.

In the dugout, Rose, who is now 81, declined to respond to any further queries.

Later on Sunday, the reporter claimed in a tweet that Rose had asked her if he had upset her and had offered to “sign 1,000 baseballs” in exchange for her forgiveness. She asserted that he apologized to her.

In August 1989, Major League Baseball handed Rose a lifetime suspension for betting on the Cincinnati Reds team while he was a player/manager.

When Rose entered the field at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday, the Phillies faithful applauded him. He accrued 826 of his 4,256 MLB-record hits while he was a player with the Phillies from 1979 to 1983, a period of five seasons.
