The title of Rihanna’s next reggae-influenced song from the much awaited Black Panther sequel has been revealed. The artist announced on Wednesday morning that the song “Lift Me Up” would be released on October 28.

She announced the title and release date on Twitter along with a little audio teaser in which she can be heard humming and harmonizing. The word “Wakanda Forever” merged into a R for Rihanna in an advertisement for the film that was just one day earlier issued by Marvel. When it was announced that Rihanna would release new music soon, almost six years after her last album, fans went absolutely insane.

The announcement follows a week of fan rumors that the creator of Fenty Beauty was working on new songs for the Black Panther film. She apparently composed two soundtracks for the second Black Panther movie, Wakanda Forever, whose premiere is scheduled for November 11.

Meanwhile, the song is apparently a tribute to Chadwick Boseman’s life, who portrayed the movie’s main role, Black Panther. Boseman lost his battle with colon cancer in 2020. The actor shot the first movie while undergoing cancer treatment, and the second movie was nearly finished in some areas. Later, Marvel chose to use the actor’s scenes to flesh out the tale rather than casting a new actor to play Black Panther.

In the meantime, “Lift Me Up” sees writing credits for Tems, Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, and Ryan Coogler.

Tems, who is most known for her hit song “Free Mind,” talked about writing the song and collaborating with Rihanna.

Tems stated, I wanted to compose something that conveys a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life after chatting with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song. “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

On the other hand, fans responded to the news after waiting impatiently for new music from Rihanna.

“WE ARE SCREAMING,” one person tweeted. “It’s an Afrobeats song,” another said.

“Queen of music is back,” one said while another added, “Taylor, Rihanna, drake oh god the competition is fierce.”
