Super Eagles Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye IG comment sections under fire from from angry fans

Maduka Okoye, Super Eagles goalkeeper, has disabled the comment section of his Instagram account following an avalanche of abuses from irate Nigerians.

On Sunday, Okoye could not stop a 47th-minute shot from Tunisia’s Youssef Mskani, which turned out to be the only goal of the encounter that sent Nigeria out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Cameroon.

Several Nigerian football fans have blamed the goalkeeper for the goal, adding that the shot should have been a routine save for the 22-year-old.

Shortly after the match, some angry fans had stormed Okoye’s Instagram page and directed a number of abusive messages to the goalkeeper.

Okoye, who had recently been popular among Nigerian ladies for his attractive appearance, was also pelted with disparaging words, with some social media users claiming he was distracted by women.

In response to the stream of vile messages, Okoye disabled comments from his page to ward off the trolling mob.

In a similar development, Alex Iwobi, Super Eagles midfielder, archived his posts on Instagram to ward off the tirade of abuses from trolls over his red card during the game.

Iwobi was sent off in the 66th minute of the game after a video assistant referee (VAR) review adjudged his stomp on Mskani’s right ankle as a red card offence.

As of the time of this report, the Everton player had unarchived his posts on the platform but deactivated comments under them.
