AFCON 2023: Lagos creates 20 live viewing centres for residents

The Lagos State Government has created no fewer than 20 live Viewing Centres for residents to watch the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in a statement said the initiative tagged #LagosIsAGoal was designed to provide a conducive platform for the residents to enjoy live matches of this year’s tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

It stated that the state government erected gigantic TV-size screens at the 20 designated viewing centres located in Surulere, Lagos Island, Yaba, Epe, Oworonshoki, Badagry, Ketu, Ajegunle and Alimosho.

Others are Agbado-Oke Odo, Ojo, Festac, Ijegun, Agege, Mushin, Ikorodu, Ojokoro, Abesan, Igbobi-Sabe and Lekki.

It noted that the various venues have witnessed mammoth crowds since the first game on Saturday between the hosts Côte d’Ivoire Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau.

LSSC added that the aim is also to ensure that soccer-loving residents give their support to the Super Eagles who are eyeing a fourth AFCON title during their group matches.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, 18 when they will take on Côte d’Ivoire in their second Group A game.

In their first game on Sunday, the Eagles could only settle for a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea.
