Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be the chief host of a special dinner organized for the Super Eagles on Tuesday, January 9, 2023.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) in a statement on Monday confirmed that Sanwo-Olu will host the Super Eagles hours before the team departs for Cote d’Ivoire where they will participate in the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) starting on Saturday, January 13.

The NFF stated that Sports Development Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh will be the co-host of the glamour event, to which Governors Douye Diri (Bayelsa State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta State), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa State) and Godwin Obaseki (Edo State) have been invited.

NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau is the host, with top officials of the Lagos State government and a couple of parliamentarians.

Also expected in attendance are the NFF Executive Committee members, representatives of NFF’s corporate partners and sponsors, members of NFF Management, Chairman and Board of the Lagos State Football Association.

Vintage guests are the 25 players selected for Nigeria’s onslaught for a fourth AFCON trophy, as well as their officials, who will all arrive in Lagos aboard a chartered aircraft on Tuesday evening.

NFF President Gusau, meanwhile on Monday, expressed the appreciation to Sanwo-Olu and his administration for their magnanimity.

“It is an occasion to tell the players how much Nigerians will be supporting them at the African Cup of Nations Championship,” Gusau said.

The Nigerian contingent to the 2023 AFCON will depart Lagos on Wednesday morning for the 80-minute flight to Abidjan.

Abidjan is where the Super Eagles will compete in Group A against host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.

The delegation will be led by the Chairman of NFF Technical and Development Committee, Sharif Rabiu Inuwa.
