Kenneth Oodee – Afrikaner

THE AFRIKANER by KENNETH OODEE

He posed in his vintage
With a cultural heritage
Messages from his unspoken adage
In fela trouser, he walked the village
1980 was his image
In his rural step lies his yanga
Some felt he was a stranger
His akpola shoes made him taller

His afro hair kept him formal
Surrounded by his women
Lenu, Lebari and Helen
He was given garri and pawpaw
A hen, rice and some wrappers
He was the talk of town
Like a king is set to be crowned
His friends rendering tones of ode

This ever, is his best Saturday
He was escorted to the park
With three boxes and a bag
The whole celebration was a trip to the city
As the engine of his lorry starts, He joyfully waved goodbye
He vanished with time and in distance
So long Afrikaner
