Ladies in Sports (LIS) International in partnership with the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and the Bank of Industry (BOI) will hold a new programme for women working in the sports industry called the LIS Skills Lab.

The organisation explained that LIS Skills Lab is a project that provides training and workshops for women working in the sports industry in various capacities, whether as athletes, journalists, or in administration.

It added that the 2020 edition of the LIS Skills Lab is targeted at young women journalists and journalists working in women’s sport.

LIS founder Tega Onojaife said the programme is important to empower women’s voices.

“We have seen the importance of people using their voices and how powerful it is with the ongoing ENDSARS protest in Nigeria and the Black Lives Matter protest all around the world.

“Right now it is imperative for women to raise their voices, tell their own stories, and let the world know what they are capable of and we are using journalism to help amplify those voices.

“Women in sports need to share their own stories and use the power in their voices to push for equality in sports and the LIS Skills Lab programme is providing the platform for women in sports and women’s sport to do that,” Onojaife said.
