Liverpool Midfielder Wijnaldum said he would be “devastated” if he had to leave Liverpool.

Georginio Wijnaldum said he would be “devastated” if he were to leave Liverpool with his contract expiring in the next few months with no new deal in sight.

Barcelona and a reunion with his former national team coach Ronald Koeman have long been associated with the Dutch international.

Wijnaldum was unable to deliver a firm response about his future ahead of Wednesday’s second leg of Liverpool’s last-16 Champions League tie against RB Leipzig.

The midfielder, who has won the Champions League and Premier League under Jurgen Klopp, said, “The most important thing is to get back on track and win games again, and then we will see.”

“I am really happy here and my family is happy here but there is no news. But I would be devastated (if) I didn’t play with this team anymore, that’s for sure.”

The 30-year-old, who has made 224 appearances for Liverpool in five years, is having to consider walking away from the club where he has tasted so much success.

“I am very happy here, and so is my dad, but there is no coverage. Yet I’d be heartbroken if I didn’t get to play for this band any longer.”

The 30-year-old, who has 224 appearances for Liverpool in five years, is considering leaving the club that has seen him so much success.

He identified it as “extremely difficult.” “If that happens, you’ll be quitting a family you truly care for. A squad with whom you’ve spent several years and with whom you feel completely at ease.

“On the other hand, you’d be aware of the situation that requires you to leave. It is still based on the circumstances.”

Liverpool, which is losing in the Premier League, leads Leipzig 2-0 after the first leg of their tie.
