NWFL 2021/22 premier league final lap begins Wednesday

After a two-week mid-season break, the final lap of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premier League will resume on Wednesday in all designated venues across the country.

Going into the break, Group A table of the NWFL Premiership had former champions, Nasarawa Amazons, on top with 15 points after six matches. They overtook Edo Queens of Benin on the last day with just one point. Group B had Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt as leaders with 13 points, after overtaking Bayelsa Queens on 11 points on the last day of the first stanza.

The resumption of the league will open a straight battle among the clubs vying to be among the three teams per group that will participate in the NWFL Super Six Championship that will determine the eventual champions.

The league winners will represent Nigeria in the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

In Group A, the top four clubs are Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, Naija Ratels and Confluence Queens with the star match in this group being the clash between Confluence Queens and Nasarawa Amazons.

In Group B, it is a straight battle among the top four clubs, which are Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens and FC Robo for the three slots from the group. Group B star match will feature FC Robo against Royal Queens.
